Akhtala
— the mud resort of a subtropical zone in the Gurdzhaansky
region
of Georgia, in 122 km to the East from Tbilisi. Akhtal's resort in the
Alazansky valley, at the height of 412 m above sea level is located.
Medical properties of akhtalsky dirt were known to local population for
a long time. Akhtala's medical dirt is mentioned by the Georgian
historian and the geographer Vakhushti Bagrationi (the XVIII century),
the historian and the archeologist P. Ioseliani and the doctor A.
Meskhishvili (the XIX century).
The major natural medical factor — sopochny medical dirt.
Akhtalsky mud hills are located in a hollow of 4-5 hectares. From 9
largest hills at the same time work 3-4. At eruption of hills together
with dirt there is an allocation of methane and chloride sodium highly
mineralized (15-17 g/l) the water containing biologically active
elements — bromine, iodine, barium and some other. Akhtalsky
dirt
of ash-gray color, has a liquid konsinstention, specific weight 1,1-1,2
and is applied to mud cure (in the form of bathtubs, applications,
tampons), for this purpose it warm up depending on procedure to 36-48
°C.
In Akhtal's resort treatment of patients with diseases of bodies of
movement and a support, peripheral nervous system and gynecologic
diseases is carried out.
Excursions on picturesque Akhtala's vicinities are interesting; near
Gurdzhaani Kvelatsmind's monastery (the VIII—IX century)
remained.
