At the distance of 30 – 35 km from Rustavi you will find yourselves in a semi-desert called "The desert of David Garedji” (80 km away from Tbilisi). The name comes from the monastery complex, which was established in the VI century by one of 13 Asyrian fathers David Garedjeli. The Asyrian fathers were providing spiritual activity in Georgia in the VI century, they have established different monastery complexes in various regions, they played remakable part in developing of Christianity. They are acknowledged as saints. The monastery complexes of Garedji are in a few kilometers distance away from each other and their major part is graven in rock, on which fragments of frescos are left. During the visit to David Garedji, you will get in totally different cultural and climatic environment, it will take you 2-3 hours to view it.
